GIGABYTE presents the world's first OLED display with 80Gbps video bandwidth

Kosta Andreadis | Displays & Projectors | Jun 10, 2024 6:58 PM CDT

At Computex 2024, we got to go hands-on with GIGABYTE products, including its latest display range. GIGABYTE has many vibrant OLED displays available now and on the horizon, including a setup that lets you daisy chain multiple monitors over a single DisplayPort 2.1 connection.

GIGABYTE presents the world's first OLED display with 80Gbps video bandwidth

GIGABYTE told us that the AORUS F032U2P, a 4K 240 Hz OLED display, is the world's first DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20 display with an industry-leading 80Gbps bandwidth. This allows you to daisy-chain up to four displays, each with a 4K 120 Hz refresh rate over a single DisplayPort 2.1 cable. Impressive stuff, though it feels like this would work best with a next-gen GeForce RTX 5080 or 5090.

With the shift to OLED for its premium displays, the company announced that its AORUS brand for enthusiast gamers would shift to OLED panel technology for all its displays going forward.

Black Ops 6 is online-only, all modes require internet to play

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Jun 10, 2024 3:51 PM CDT

Yesterday, Microsoft and Activision formally unveiled Call of Duty Black Ops 6 to gamers, but this sequel brings some big changes.

Black Ops 6 is online-only, all modes require internet to play

Black Ops 6 will require always-online internet connectivity in order to play, Activision has confirmed. This includes all modes of play, even the campaign. The publisher was careful to say that both PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass Core are required for online multiplayer, but the campaign can be played without these subscriptions.

The reason? Treyarch's new game uses texture streaming tech to handle Black Ops 6's in-game assets, which are indubitably large--The game clocks in at 300GB worth of data (that's over 1/3rd of a stock PS5 SSD).

Microsoft has made vital changes to sway those who hated the idea of Windows 11 Recall feature

Darren Allan | Software & Apps | Jun 10, 2024 12:02 PM CDT

Microsoft has reversed course on Windows 11's divisive Recall feature for Copilot+ PCs, making some major changes to help ensure the AI capability doesn't go badly when it launches.

Microsoft has made vital changes to sway those who hated the idea of Windows 11 Recall feature

If there's one key thing we've been calling for since Recall was revealed, it was for the feature to be off by default, and fortunately that's one of the sensible moves that Microsoft has implemented here.

Previously, during the setup process for a Copilot+ PC (in preview), the user was introduced to Recall, but not given a straightforward option to switch it off there and then. While there was an introduction to the feature, it was poorly implemented and designed, at least for novice Windows 11 users.

AMD teases 'really cool differentiators' for next-gen Zen 5-based CPUs with 3D V-Cache tech

Anthony Garreffa | CPU, APU & Chipsets | Jun 10, 2024 6:16 AM CDT

AMD has one of the best CPUs for gaming with its current-gen Zen 4-based Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor, but we're now expecting next-gen Zen 5-based Ryzen 9000 series, which will have SKUs that will be powered with 3D V-Cache technology.

AMD teases 'really cool differentiators' for next-gen Zen 5-based CPUs with 3D V-Cache tech

But now AMD has spoken with PCGamer about some new CPUs, with AMD's senior technical marketing manager Donny Woligroski saying: "The X3D stuff, we have a lot to say about it. The best part about it is we're not just resting on laurels. We're improving what we can do with X3D, it's really exciting and I'm super looking forward to talking to people about that. It's not like, hey, we've also added X3D to a chip. We are working actively on really cool differentiators to make it even better. We're working on X3D, we're improving it".

If you were expecting to see AMD do what it did last time: slapping second-gen 3D V-Cache to its CPUs this time around, you'd be wrong. AMD has been making improvements to 3D V-Cache, and it seems that we're going to see just what those improvements are -- sorry, 'really cool differentiators' -- when the next-gen Zen 5-based Ryzen 9000 series X3D processors launch.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 requires an absolutely insane 300GB+ on Xbox Series X/S consoles

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Jun 10, 2024 5:34 AM CDT

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will require an absolutely bonkers amount of SSD space on the Xbox Series X/S consoles, requiring a huge 309.8GB of storage.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 requires an absolutely insane 300GB+ on Xbox Series X/S consoles

The news comes from an early spotting of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on the Xbox Store, showing that it requires exactly 309.8GB of space. Frankly, I'm not surprised... we saw a few years ago that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was consuming 200GB+ and then 250GB+ on the PC before some changes were made, but now we're talking about 300GB... one-third of the 1TB SSD inside of the Xbox Series X/S consoles.

NVIDIA's RTX 5090 and 5080 could be delayed to early 2025 - as well as AMD's RDNA 4 GPUs?

Darren Allan | Video Cards & GPUs | Jun 8, 2024 10:31 AM CDT

Those desperate to witness the launch of next-gen graphics cards from AMD and NVIDIA may not want to hear the latest chatter from the GPU grapevine, as it points to delays with both Blackwell and RDNA 4.

NVIDIA's RTX 5090 and 5080 could be delayed to early 2025 - as well as AMD's RDNA 4 GPUs?

As VideoCardz noticed, Tweakers has posted two reports on both next-gen GPU ranges sharing what's been gleaned from talking to connected sources at Computex, though we should add you must grab handfuls of seasoning to go with these assertions.

The first report was about AMD, and also Intel's, next-gen GPUs, and claims that both RDNA 4 and Battlemage won't be out until 2025, or this is the most likely case. Both ranges should debut at CES 2025, or that's the strongest possibility, according to Tweakers - though an announcement could be made late in 2024.

Anthony Garreffa | Video Cards & GPUs | Jun 6, 2024 9:36 PM CDT

NVIDIA has been dominant for years, but in a new report from analyst firm Jon Peddie Research (JPR) we're seeing the AIB GPU market is absolutely dominated by NVIDIA with 88% market share, AMD with just 12%, leaving Intel with exactly 0% market share.

NVIDIA absolutely dominates AIB GPU market in Q124 with 88% leaving AMD with 12%, Intel has 0%

JPR's report states that in Q1 2024, 8.7 million units were shipped, down from 9.5 million units in Q4 2023. The market share for desktop discrete GPU suppliers "shifted" in the quarter, with NVIDIA's market share growing since last quarter by 8%, while AMD's share decreased by 7%.

Intel entered the AIB market in Q3 2022, close to two years ago now, with its Arc A770 and Arc A750 graphics cards, but they "remained flat" says JPR as the company "has yet to gain significant traction in the add-in board market". Meanwhile, NVIDIA holds a dominant 88% of the market.
